How Much is the Flu Costing Your Company?

Did you know, according to the CDC, that 17 million workdays are missed every year? And that is just in relation to the flu! Imagine not only the tasks that can be completed in that time to help grow a business, but also how much better employees and customers would feel if they weren’t that sick!
There are several ways you can help prevent the spread of any illness at your office to protect other employees and your customers. While this list is not exhaustive, we think it will be a step in the right direction to giving those who enter your building peace of mind that you care for their wellbeing.
  1. Encourage employees to stay home if they are not feeling well. It is better for them to heal at home than knock out your entire staff because of illness that is spread through the air or by touching shared items.
  2. Make sure restrooms are well stocked with disinfecting hand soap, tissues, and paper towels. Remind employees and customers of proper hand washing techniques through signage throughout the bathrooms.
  3. Have a regularly scheduled cleaning service that focuses on high touch areas or high traffic areas. Verify your cleaning company is using EPA certified products to kill the influenza A virus, also known as the flu. Cleaning (and disinfecting – see the difference in our article on Disinfection vs. Cleaning – What’s the Difference?) surfaces like bathrooms, kitchens, phones, copiers/printers, doors, mail machines, etc. can help reduce the spread of bacteria and viruses.
  4. Add in extra cleanings if needed. During peak seasons of illnesses, like flu season that peaks from December to February, it may be of interest to your company to increase your cleaning schedule OR add an electrostatic spraying service during those months. This will help reduce exposure to everyone that comes into your building.
  5. Consider a disinfection program that can help give your customers and employees a piece of mind while working in your building. As mentioned previously, the flu peaks between December and February, but it and other illnesses can be a year long occurrence. A 90-day Protection Process can put your mind at ease that you are going the extra mile to keep everyone healthy and strong!
Not only will you keep your business running effectively and your employees productive and healthy, your employees and customers alike will appreciate the steps you take to keeping them healthy all year long. Call us today to determine the best options for your business!
